Hypothetical: Serving life in prison. Would you run a “sniper gauntlet” for your freedom?

Say you were convicted of a serious crime and had the choice to rot in a cell for the rest of your life…
OR
Run a “sniper gauntlet” where a guy gets a to try to take you out as you run away from the prison. If you get away, your slate is wiped clean.
Would you potentially sacrifice your life for the possibility of being free?
ETA: In this hypothetical prison you would be in solitary, so your chance of being killed by another inmate is low.

How long is this gauntlet and is it wide open?
Also, if they can't have any type of thermal or night vision, etc..can I do it at night?

I was thinking more along the lines of Apocalypto where they give them the chance at freedom but have to outrun their spears and other long-range weapons.

Best sniper in the corrections system and whatever distance it takes for you to be out of range of a typical sniper.

Wide open, as long as it takes to get out of range. No trees, no bushes to hide behind. Just open land for dozens of miles.
