Hypothetical on Alimony Taxes

First sign a prenup, second don't get hitched below 21 or in Vegas and third, no children involved.

Now that aside. Are the tax laws fair for the ex wife who has to pay taxes on the money she receives or do ex husbands get the better deal on their tax breaks.

Finally assume you are not in Louisiana because there are states in this country that it is required that the bread winner maintains the previous spouses' "level of life" prior to the separation agreement" for X number of years.

I just don't understand the concept of alimony whatsoever. So basically I didn't answer your question.

Alimony is no longer tax deductible unless you get divorced this year. Get those divorces in quick baws

Well one party is giving money away and the other is receiving money without doing anything for. I k ow which one I'd rather be. As for your question, I'm don't know what you're asking. The alimony payer gets to take a deduction, and the alimony receiver has to claim the income so it's 1 for 1.

If you are providing a salary to a person (because that’s what alimony equates to), the person on the receiving end should have to pay the taxes. I’d say the tax laws are more than fair on this one.
