Video I have seen, this fire is a monster. Flames are massive and embers are dropping like some end of times movie.

What an incredibly ignorant thing to say on all kinds of levels.

210,000 acres today.

For reference, the Atchafalaya Basin is 260,000 acres.

ETA: That is misleading because the number I found for the Atchafalaya Basin only references the tupelo-cypress swamp areas. The overall basis is actually 1.4MM acres.

This fire is unbelievable. It progressed from 18,500 acres yesterday to 210,000 acres today. The images tomorrow morning will be apocalyptic.

That's what scares me the most about these big fires out west and up north. The rate at which they grow is unbelievable. I've watched it happen three times and it's just astounding. Once they go from a little smolder to flames they can engulf a couple hundred acres in a few hours.

They are basically a visual representation of exponential growth.

My wife spoke to our friends from up there last night. They made it out early. They drove through before the fire reached the highway, followed by their children (Early 20's).

They are staying about 100 miles south at a relative's house. They have no news on any damage done to any of their property.

Last night I read that they are evacuating the town to the south that most folks evacuated to.

I'm surprised at how little the media is covering this. 90,000 people evacuated and it's getting 30 seconds on air.

Anzac is where a lot of evacuees went. It is about 20 miles SSE of Fort McMurray. It is directly in the fire's path.

The video and news is just skirting the extent of the damage that is done. It is pretty hard to count how many houses have been burned when they are desperately trying to save the airport, downtown, etc.

The count of 1600 structures burned is from a few days ago. While it is still being reported, the numbers have surely climbed with the fire doubling in size and running through town.

To put this in perspective, Baton Rouge is 79.11 square miles. The fire has covered 210,000 acres, or 328.125 sq. miles.

Somebody said this was ignorant. But it isn't. Look at the price per barrel today versus two days ago.

Time to get the F-250 out of hock and put my truck nuts back on!

30% chance, the morning of 5/19 according to The Weather Channel website.

How they would know that, I have no idea.

I can't imagine the agony that they're going through having to wait to find out if they've lost everything

I guess the markets anticipated this catastrophe happening more than a week ago when oil reached $46.

Some of you really are clueless & pathetic. And the perpetual jokes regarding the industry when people are losing everything really are growing old.
