Depending on your school, those people were in your life for 3-13 years.
If you truly don't keep up with anyone from high school, it probably says alot more about you as a teen than anything else.
There is no doubt that I have a personality that if I'm not hanging out with you regularly, I dont call to chit chat or anything. So I fall out of touch with people. Did it with high school and college. Married now with a kid so sometimes it gets pretty bad. I'm not anti social or an a-hole (intentionally). I just dont keep in touch for the sake of keeping in touch. Small talk is awkward to me. Need to get better at it, but I'm not there. No facebook on top of that and I dont know much at all about my high school class.
Theres only probably 5 people worth knowing what they were up to anyway. Plus, in this scenario, I can still pretend to possibly be the most successful

My class* (‘67) is old. Turning 70 this year. Our 50th reunion was a real shocker, my memories were of normal 18 yr olds, then 20-somethings from our 10th. Hadn’t seen most since then. A handful have died over the years, some surprises. A few were really health impaired. How the rest of them, even most of the (formerly) cute girls got so old, dumpy and overweight, with a small handful of exceptions, was dismaying. I wouldn’t have recognized 90% of them without their name tags. Then I looked at myself in the mirror... Yikes!
*Class size about 350-360, from a New Orleans public HS.

Lost one to cancer a few years after we graduated.
The one that I knew would work on his family’s farm is doing exactly that.
One had a drug problem and now goes to one is those mega churches.
One joined the air force and moved out west.
One of the girls that I thought was really smart and well read ended up as a stay at home mom.
The people that I knew were trashy turned into very bad people.
My closest friend just broke off his engagement. I’m a little worried about him.
Two of the couples in high school are now happily married.
The one that we knew would inherit his family’s business did exactly that. He’s probably the most well off now.
Other than the the guy that was born into it and the surgeon, I am probably out earning all of them.
