Beale street exists now because they sanitized all the surrounding streets, like bull dozed their buildings and cleared out the riff raff.

Maybe you could get them interested in comparing all the BBQ joints and your Mom might enjoy the Williams and Sonoma outlet store.

I live within 10 minutes of downtown Memphis and almost never walk down there at night. Couldn't even get through "901 Day" celebration without some teenager getting shot. Good place to visit during the day around here? Broad Avenue and Madison Ave have some artsy-fartsy coffee places and shops they should look at.
