move down the ladder to the crappy beers. Ballantine beer-99¢ a six pack and a free hangover/sour stomach to go with it.
ETA: could never figure out why the girls didn't anything to do with our cheap asses

That plus the big huge ungroomed briar patch bush snatches.

my parent actually used to send me to the store to get beer. when i was 12-13 and the store sold it to me.
18 was the age when I was in hs, didn't turn 18 until just before starting college, although we had fake IDs, we never really needed them except for a couple of bars on a busy night, we'd go to the 7-11 after practice, maybe wearing a letter jacket and the cashier(while ringing up beers,) would ask "how was practice today boys?"

I'm pretty sure it's the ash tray.
I guarantee that drink in the glass with a gold rim is a highball.

Regal used to have a big billboard on False River with the three musketeers all brandishing swords in one hand and beer steins in the other. That sign outlived the brewery by decades.

I don’t remember my mother. But from what I’ve been told, she was hippy.

neighborhood store was about 2-3 blocks from our house. the owner and everyone else there knew who we were and how old we were. they just didn't care.
it was like when john boy used to go to Godsey's on The Waltons

Never got into Dixie either, and when they came out with that bad batch in the 80's, it really got nasty.
My go-to beer as a high schooler was Carling's Black Label.

Vividly remember Pat Gillen's on Metairie Rd. across from Oscar's and Nick's on Tulane Ave.
One of my nephews worked there before Katrina and a few years prior to that I replaced both double doors on the front of the place. That was fun since the place was basically falling apart about that time. The true meaning of a "dive bar" for sure.
