Is your daughter old enough to be able to shut her eyes and cover her face for a few seconds until you can talk to the cop?

Damages for what? Does the OP have a state recognized sign on the back of his car telling police about his daughter's condition?

Gotcha. It's the kid's fault.

That's the most important thing. She's fine.

The cop doesn't know what's going on inside the vehicle, and I'm sure he's heard every excuse there is to hear.

Serious question, could she not have covered her own eyes? I can understand why someone turning around and fiddling with stuff in the rear or the car would spook a cop.

I'm trying to tell the guy. My daughter is prone to seizures. It's not like he couldn't see what my wife was doing.

it's certainly not the cop's fault unless he know of the situation before hand? Do you think that's a reasonable assumption?

That's not what I was saying at all. I think the best way to handle it would be to tell the kid to cover her eyes if she can for a minute. Wait for the cop to walk up to the window and explain the situation.

The same way you did, that is a tough situation but I can't really blame the cop for reacting that way.

Maybe think proactively and how to prevent this from happening again in a similar situation in the future.

That's a tough one. He doesn't know you or your wife, so to him it looked threatening. I hope your daughter is going to be okay.

You said it was dark, now you're telling me he can see?

Try looking at it from his point of view without your hindsight of knowing your daughter's condition.

I don't know what 6 year olds are capable of but maybe she could have covered her own eyes at your instruction.

Cop sounds overzealous but for the most part they don't want to see people reaching beneath the seats, reaching in the back seats, etc. I know I wouldn't.

I'm not looking for any compensation. It was just a crazy ordeal and it pisses me off the guy wouldn't listen for a second.
