Yep. It's an unfortunate reality.

But at least with right wing radicals, they are openly intolerant. Neo Nazis, Klan, etc; they tell you straight up.

But it's frustrating, that people I commonly vote similarly, are so damn intolerant about tolerance. It's so fricking hypocritical, and most have never been faced with in a real life situation.


I work in the construction industry. I also look like an Aryan poster child. And I've had people say a ton of racist shite over the years. Sometimes so casually, you'd think they were talking about football.

When I was younger, I'd keep my mouth shut, and just try to change the conversation. I knew I wasn't changing anyone's mind, and I was a young guy in a grown arse man industry.

But I've gotten older, and matured. I'm not gonna sit there and listen to that anymore, but I know that you can't lecture people and expect them to change their opinion. It usually has the exact opposite effect.

The way I handled it last time, is the way I plan on handling it from now on.

I go to a jobsite to inspect something. The contractor's foreman was walking with me, as usual. He eventually asked me about my accent and where I was from, and told him I've lived all over the South.

He immediately asks if I want to hear a joke. I say okay.

Yeah. It was that bad. He told two more equally unfunny, uncreative, racist jokes. I find some racist jokes funny. If it's funny and creative, I can laugh at almost any subject, no matter how dark. But these were shitty, racist jokes. And the only reason he started, was because I said I'm from the South, which also pissed me off.

So finally I had enough. I stop, look at him, and tell him "you know, my girlfriend is black." And walked away.

His eyes looked wider than someone who had just took too big of a line. He apologized, and we finished our business. I'm not gonna change his opinion. But he'll damn sure think twice about acting like a dumbass racist in public.

Though I was lying. I was hooking up with an Asian chick at the time.

Well I'm not that old and I remember that while I was serving in the Navy. The most racist people I have ever been around were blacks. I went to school with them and have worked along side of them. Whites would tell jokes in private and blacks would jump you at a moments notice only because you were white.
