This woman is displaying what a lot of people do not understand about liberalism and leftist ideology. It's not about bringing everyone up. It's about bringing everyone down. The former is impossible and they know that.
If my core political belief is to represent the "weak", why on earth would I give anyone power?
Another way to frame it, what political party benefits from poverty, crime, ghettos, unemployment, social disorder, etc?
