I'm not even so sure it's gonna happen today... can't find the moon anywheres in the sky right now

I've glanced at the sun many times so I don't see how looking at the eclipse for a couple seconds at a time is any worse.

I just went outside to see if the eclipse was happening. I looked at the sun for like 30 minutes and now I can't see anything. Does that mean I saw the eclipse?

Less painful glare will mean you might look right at the sun for more than a "glance".
Less bright light might mean your pupils don't contract quite as much, and expose more of your retina to the radiation.
