How to prevent static electricity?

Winter time is brutal for me...should I carry a dryer sheet around? Nothing like looking like a psycho in the grocery store when getting shocked by touching anything

Now for a serious answer. Almost all build up is from your shoes contacting the floor. If you have a tendency to slide your foot when you pick it up or put it back down you're causing friction. Your best bet is to get some old people tennis shoes with the rubber soles (keds) and walk bow-legged.
