This entire thread reads like a case study of why the middle class is so broke, unhappy, and stupid.

Pick out a pretty ring, spend a moderate amount, and go do something or start a damn life with the rest.

The fact of the matter is, if you go cheap on a ring and have the means to do otherwise, people are going to judge you. Whether that is right or wrong for them to do does not change the fact that it will happen.

Ok well you and salmons(although his was a joke) posts don't really apply here.

This is like me replying to a how much does a 40 person crawfish boil cost thread with $100 when I get the crawfish, seasoning, fixings, and propane for free.

No, we still paid everyone (musicians for wedding, band for reception, dress seamstress, cake baker, reception venue manager, and caterer were all friends), and nothing was free. We just got the friends and family price.

I think spending 10k on a ring isn't the best investment

And buying ethically sourced diamonds is a new fashion trend, as well as different colored center stones. Moissonite is very popular

This site has some beautiful inexpensive rings LINK

Considering an engagement ring an investment seems like flawed logic to begin with.

I realize the OT and divorce walk hand in hand but the logic behind buying an engagement ring shouldn't be "how much can I get for this in 10 years".

All that matters is that it looks good on Facebook and Instagram so she can show it off and assign a number value as to how much you love her.
Welcome to 2017.

Word of advice -- there is not a woman on the planet that doesn't like big diamonds. If your fiancé tells you that she doesn't, she's lying. Stop being a broke dick and spend some money on the woman you plan to spend the rest of your life with.
