Just was messaging this chick I knew from college and she told me she was going to be a surrogate for a gay couple in San Francisco. She said they're going to pay her 30 large to carry the baby. It doesn't seem like enough to me. I wonder what her health care provider thinks of this or if they even know.

I think $20.00 for every hour you're pregnant and $15,000 for the delivery are appropriate.

So 145k? Seems excessive.

There are easier ways to make 30k rather than wrecking your body. You get 30k for saggy tits and a hooch like a hallway. No thanks.

Usually the couple pays all medical cost. Her healthcare probably won't put out a dime; the couple's plan might cover some of the cost, thought I doubt it.

I'd assume $30k is about standard as long as she's nothing out of pocket. If you think about it her life is only really affected for about six months, so her pay would be equal to $60k/year, and she can still go about her "normal" life (with restrictions of course).

ETA- She should have her own lawyer look over any contract she has with the couple. These things can get nasty (and expensive) fast if something doesn't work out.

Umm, the lifestyle, pain, responsibility, probable postpartum depression, and body damage? I think 150K is more than fair for that.

Over the course of 9 months that total is 146,400. So basically more than some physicians pay.

Has anyone ever been asked to do this? I'm 90% sure a lesbian couple were hinting at this one time for me. Seemed very weird, but I'd like to think that 50k would make me feel better.

So how does this work? Do they use like a donated egg, fertilize it with one of their sperm, and then use a baster on her? Just joking about the baster, but really I'm curious about where the egg comes from.

Yeah, because physicians go home and have peace of mind. You don't and have tons of damage to your body and mind over departing from a baby. If I were a woman, I wouldn't possibly consider anything less than 150K for that. Maybe if it were for a hypothetical brother, but I'd still charge 100K solid.

30K for my sperm I think would be fair, but to give birth it would have to be far more than that.

So this is the part that I think introduces the real moral question here. Being a surrogate and just carrying the baby is one thing. But as a guy I don't think I could go along with being a sperm donor. The thought that there is a biological child of mine out there that I am willingly not participating in raising it bothers me. I don't think that I could go along with that.

Likewise, I would imagine if the woman is also "donating" her egg as well as carrying the child seems like a pretty tough thing to ask of a woman. That's gotta cause some psychological damage.

This is why I am mainly curious about where the egg comes from. Maybe if the egg is from some other party then maybe the disconnect is easier to deal with. I don't know. I guess the whole thing is just pretty fricky the more I think about it.
