Also, whatever happened to calls from jail being collect calls? And do the inmates have to pay for calls to their attorneys?

You can still take the call, but you have to set up an account with Securis and have money on your account.

And I can’t speak for Orleans, but in Baton Rouge, clients absolutely have to pay to call their attorney, unless we eat the cost. Same at most other facilities that I’ve dealt with. A few of them will waive the cost if I call ahead and set up the call myself, but if the client initiates the call, it’s always going to cost someone. (ETA: there was a period of time during the height of COVID that attorney calls out of EBRPP were free, but that ended months ago)

But to answer the OP, they should absolutely be free, or at cost at most. The idea that the prison bilks phone calls as a significant revenue source is pathetic.

live one parish over and have a lot of vested interest in the metro area.

I know you know the Jackson Barracks is a force field

90 percent of my fellow parish citizens would be perfectly happy if everything east of the Barracks was nuked.

What I got from reading this exchange is that you live in St. Bernard Parish and 90% of St. Bernard Parish residents would be perfectly happy if their parish was nuked.

I'm not surprised that this company is contributing money to Gusman's campaign.

Happens in Washington Parish too. I'm sure it's every place in the country.

Should cost the same as anywhere else.

Jail phones are one of the biggest grifts in the country.
