I am happy with me and the SO each making low 6 figures, no kids, no debt besides the mortgage.
Dont kno why you got downvoted for that. Sounds like you have a good thing going on.
I'll be hoonest and say i don't bring a lot of money it. I have access to money thru inheritance so that I can buy big ticket items (house, vehicle, etc). So my contributions financially are lump sums, not regular checks.
BF works as a boilermaker mastercraftsman. If he works 5 days (12 hour norm) he can make about 2800 week
But a 7 day week is the norm so that is 4400.
He prefers to only work part time so he works a week or two, takes off a week or two and then works another project. Work maybe 30-40 weeks a year and have 12-22 weeks off a year and still make over $150,000.
He is trying to retire but they need him. He wishes they could find a young man to take over his position but he is hard to replace because he never refuses a job, never shies from the dirty work and treats his workers well.

With our year end bonus I’ll gross 65k this year and that’s about average for my position.
I am 29 years old and often times I find myself wondering if I’m behind of where I should be in life salary wise. But like my dad has always told me no matter where you are financially there will always be people with more and people with less.
He also said “money will never buy you happiness, but it can probably lease it”

Around $70,000 per year. I have no debt, have 2 motorcycles, 2016 Honda Accord and a 2018 $70,000 ZL1 Camaro paid for. And a $200,000 house paid for. What I don’t have is some crazy count fricking with my finances...and I will never again.

He needs to find a young man he likes, train that young man to do the job the best way (probably his, but there's flexibility. And your bf needs to understand that and not force his way on the young guy), then begin to step back and let the replacement start walking, letting him do more and more until he no longer needs the mentor and the mentor can move on/retire.
Like apprenticeships in the past.
Starting with new company next week, but last year i was brought into my current field by a guy who is close to retirement that i loved working with, and was taught a lot, almost everything i know about this industry, but was never allowed to use his teachimgs as he wouldnt step back and let me use them. alcompany I'm leaving was not my favorite ever, but I was allowed to walk on my own.

That would be ideal but the younger guys don't want to or "can't" do the things the job requires. Just basic things such as squeezing into small hot spaces, going up high, hard labor in pulling tubes and pounding them in (or whatever the hell he does, He is is full FRCs and long sleeves in those conditions.
He is great when training the new guys, patient and he shows them the right way that is also the easiest way. he takes the time to explain and help. Be encourages them to get their certs.
He wants to quit but even the young ones say that they don't know what to do without him. He's the one that will make sure the job site stays neat even if he has to sweep it and put away all the tools himself.

I have been in my career since 1985. Last year, 10 senior guys.....all over 50.....were "laid off" in a reduction in force. I got 18 months severance pay, had a job with a competitor within 45 minutes, and the younger guys at the old company blow my phone up constantly, looking to come over.
So far, I have hand picked the cream of the crop, and they now work for me at the new company.
I was making bank at the old company, took a small pay cut to come to new company, but my stress is absolutely ZERO and my quality of life is 200% better.
With the more I make now in vehicle allowance, plus my bonus, plus they pay for my medical insurance, I am ahead.
My new company owner said I love hiring you old dudes.....you know what the frick you are doing, you are always at work, and you don't need your hands held. So far, 6 of us 10 that were laid off, are now with the new company.
No such thing as employer loyalty, anymore.

More than most and less than some.
That said, it doesn't matter what you make. It's what you keep that matters.
