As predicted earlier, the fricking lawyers will be the ones blocking progress.

Machines can't work if their input is shite. And right now, patients give shite input for the most part.

Machines are getting pretty good at collecting input on their own. With facial recognition technology, they can recognize symptoms like rashes and bruised or infections. Other than that they have the same drawbacks that a human doctor has concerning patient reporting.

All they need is to program the likeness of dr house and his team into this software. Could you imagine robots scanning and searching your house for "clues because you suck at medical history haha

Right now patients give the input. But in years to come, patients will be sitting in a chair reading all the bio inputs which will then be placed into a computer for processing and storage.

1. BP
2. Blood composition
3. Pulse
4. Heart Rythym
5. Some form of live ultrasound diagnostic reads of all organs
6. Kidney/liver effiencies
7. Hormone and enzyme balances
8. Oxygen flow
9. Blood flow
10. Cancerous cell checks
11. DNA/genetic checks and predictions

On and on it could go...all just by sitting in a chair. Heck, in 50 years something similar to a wifi signal may be filtering through your house constantly monitoring all these things and uploading them to the med center. No words spoken.

How do you account for pain and thereby the prescribing of pain medications? Pain is completely subjective and there is no good test for pain. So a patient comes in, says it's a 10/10, and the computer can't do shite about it. A competent doctor will be able to evaluate and decide whether to write a script or not.

That's stupid, I don't need my vitals checked fifteen times a day.

Pain may SEEM subjective TODAY. But there are ways to indicate a person is in pain objectively. Imagine 50 years from now how much easier that would be.

This thread is amazing. People can't seem to think past what they know today.

You're really reaching here bit I'll play along.

What's the doctor basing his evaluation on? The patient's sincerity? How much pain his condition causes? When the docs tee time is?

Because except for the last one, a machine can know and factor all of those things better than a person.

It really is, considering the huge advancements that we've seen in our lifetimes.

I don't think they will ever be obsolete, their role will just be greatly reduced and probably overall different than that of today.

I know. It's aggravating mainly because their head in the sand is what is required for this all to happen.

Watch Elysium ...that is a terrifying glimpse of what I believe the world will be in the not to distant future. Some things are just inevitable

LINK

It's already happening. Google has teamed with Johnson and Johnson to create AI that assists surgeons (allowing the surgeons to be way more precise than by hand).

At some point...the surgeon might be telling the AI what to do. After years of that, the AI will know what to do. Then what?

No. It might come as a shock to you, but most people don't know everything about everything.

Didn't know that. Can you give some examples?
