Insurance is a ripoff.

Seems like the way to go instead of listening to a bunch of slap dicks complaining about a 10% increase in his $80 truck insurance.
Hell we pay 100k a month on just health. That's a lot of vehicles.
nice to have a balance on everything. Nothing wrong with a large personal lines book. The norm WAS that it wasn't as intensive and it all usually just renews itself every year. Really isn't the case too much in this shite market, everyone bitches now about their $200 homeowners increase. Commercial can sometimes be more hands on and maintenance but that just builds the relationship up which is always a plus.

And I'm an agent according to the state of Arkansas but not a state farm agent. Don't really want to be either.

Agh yes plant operators making that 100k plus a year and working 70 hrs a week.
That's a really bad misconception. I think most of the people that spout stuff off like this have no clue what the Ops profession payout, OT structure is like.
Just to use an example, if top out pay is $41 an hour and you only work the scheduled OT and no more, here is the pay:
$41 x 36 hrs (week 1): $1476
$41 x 40 hrs + $61.50 x 8 hrs OT (week 2): $2132
So, lets say there's 52 weeks in a year.
26 weeks x $1476 = $38,376
26 weeks x $2132 = $55,432
So, $93,808 per year
Now, that $93,808 doesn't include any yearly bonuses, etc. that the plant/company doles out throughout the year. So, making roughly $94K with only 8 hours OT every other week isn't bad.
There's a reason why the technical colleges in Louisiana and along the Gulf Coast have high attendance, especially the Process Technology programs. There's also a reason why there are a lot of highly educated (Bachelor's and Masters) people working as plant operators. The pay and benefits are hard to beat.
Sorry, for hijacking the thread. Back to your regularly scheduled program.

We've got a total of like 17 policies total between business and personal. SOMEONE is making a fortune. Think we've had 3 claims in 18 years .. 2 vehicle and 1 home. Didn't total 10 grand.

Less Union Dues, taxes and benefits.

The Allstate agents that do well are the ones that buy an existing book of business, not the ones that start from scratch.

Well, of course. Everyone gives gross figures as their compensation.

I am curious what the first year and renewal % are for various insurances. I know it varies, but what are the averages?
I sell supplemental health, get 60/10. Our new agents start around 40/4. I think my general agent gets 80/20 on all policies our agency sells.
Medicare supps are around 17/17.
Life ranges from 90-110/0-5.
Health is around 10/10.
Auto is around 7/7.
Worker's comp?
Commercial p&c?
I am sure some of my numbers above are a little off, does anyone know what realistic %s are for these different lines?

I think it depends on how good you are. My insurance guy does pretty well but he earns it cause he's pretty awesome to deal with.

I'd get sick of calling family members and friends to sign up.
Why.. They should be willing to help as opposed to begging them for biz
Taking advantage of family members because "they should be willing to help". Pure bullshite. And yeah, I've been through that rodeo way too much.

It was gettin' thin
Sometimes it seems like the bottom
