Do you have a Tunze Osmolator?

The main appeal of a controller for me is the temperature... I have nightmares about a runaway heater or something. What would you do to help insure against that?

Lastly what power strip do you use if you dont mind me asking

Run away/stuck heaters are real. I keep planted fresh water tanks and I had a heater basically cook my 40 breeder. Lost an entire Schoal, water temp was 92!!

It's what I fear the most

What is the best way to hedge against such an event

My heater has an LED display that I can view the temperature easily. I check it about once a day.

I have a cheap lowes power strip with surge protector.

I keep looking at the Apex controllers, but they might be a bit too expensive for me. I could see it as something I buy later down the line, but not of the bat.

You also have controllers like the Digital Aquatics Reefkeeper but to give it the NET module(meaning you can control it via the internet) its just as expensive as the Apex

Some of the tanks I look at have a built in power center, but ultimately I am probably going to go with a Red Sea Reefer 170 or 250 and those don't have one. I'll just find a power strip with individually switched sockets.

I just came into a bunch of money and couldn't justify the apex to myself.

My buddy has a crazy setup with an ATO and AWC and dosing equipment and he says it's the greatest thing he's ever bought.

I think it just depends on how extensive your system is.

Tunze auto topoff

You can get a heater controller for cheap if that's all you are worried about

My aquarium store said risk is way low on run away heat.

I have 2 heaters to prevent too cold

My old tank had a monticap, torch, duncan, frogspawn, zoanthids and mushrooms

I had to give up my tank when I moved to Seattle, Seattle too expensive for me to have a tank here

Main reason I am looking forward to moving. Setting up a tank again.
