The Rig – everything you need to know about the world’s first tourist destination on an oil rig
quote:
While taking a vacation on an oil rig might not sound like your holiday of choice, we’re buzzing with excitement at the sound of The Rig. There are tourism destinations and then there are world-first tourism destinations, and The Rig is set to be the first-ever holiday spot to be inspired by offshore oil platforms. Yes, that’s right – the country famous for its black gold has announced it will use offshore oil rigs to create its next blockbuster tourism project. The upcoming holiday hotspot is all part of Saudi Vision 2030’s plans to diversify the kingdom’s economy (funnily enough, away from oil), and to become an international tourism destination.

That's actually pretty fricking cool....
Will there be 24/7 open kitchens with an unlimited candy source?
They couldn't do it in the United States... They'd be too much red tape to get through.

I'd go there before I'd go to Haiti.

That would be great for divers.

I heard the women have the sexiest lower 1/3" of ankle you've ever seen. And the eyebrows! Don't get me started.

With little else going on in the ME entertainment wise, outside of indoor ski malls. these offshore readaptations of oil platforms might become real dystopian crowd pleasers.
Until MGM builds one with offshore gambling.

I've always wondered why a rig has never been repurposed as an offshore marina, especially in an area such as the midnight lump off the La. coast. Arguably the best yellowfin tuna fishing grounds in the world could be accessed in a few minutes from a fleet of smaller bay boats by overnight guests. The fishing at night under the lights would be incredible.

Is there an excursion where I get stuck on a supply boat and have a company man call me a "weak dick" for 3 days? If not, it's not authentic.

No alcohol, very few tourist will visit. The Kingdom will need to change some before it can become a tourist vacation site.
