Shame he hasn't chimed back in after all this great advise. I imagine he was already hammered and passed out now. Hell of a day/week to try to quit drinking.

I would drink to the point of almost passing out then would do a shot of meth so I could keep on drinking. I was stuck in a vicious cycle of booze and speed for a long time. Took me 10 years of trying to get sober before I did it, detox is nothing to play with especially detox from alcohol.

Vodka got my brother.
About a fifth a day.
Decided to go cold turkey.
Died on the bathroom floor just before Christmas 2008.
Eta- he was already in pretty poor shape with the yellow tint to his skin etc. Being in that physical condition increases your chance of dying in detox. He definitely should have medically detoxed and might not have even survived that. But he didn’t consult me.

A benzo detox can kill you as well. Benzos and alcohol are the only two detoxes that can actually kill you I believe.

was drinking about a fifth of vodka a day. I was a drunk like Kaye. I would pass out, wake up and drink some more, pass out, go get more vodka, drink and pass out. Rinse and repeat.
I'm not to that point, but am at that "must be drunk" at least once a day phase. Slight hangovers somewhat regularly.
I dunno, I've been having to work a ton more than usual as of late, and it's turned into my relax time.

When you get to the point I was at, you won't have any work to worry about. I was completely unemployable.

Well good then. If you still get hangovers you should be ok if you nip it in the bud now. Last gasp alcoholics don't have hangovers because it's never out of their system long enough. Give your life to some higher power, the booze will get you in the end and it's the worst way to go out. Don't think that "you got this". Good luck to you.

We had an ot member drink himself to death. By the end, his skin was yellow. He went through 30 day detox and didn't drink again but body was too wrecked.

Man I'm glad I have a job. I don't have time to drink all day.

I tried going cold turkey and ended up having a heart attack at 41. I was 3 days in. Get into a detox/rehab facility they can detox you the right way.
