The same thing I'm doing now, working a couple of hours a day and fricking off the rest of the time.

My choices most days would be fishing or golf. Weather and seasons will dictate. I have a mountain home in NC we will upgrade as the day draws near. My 7 year plan started last year. id like to work a little to maybe a part time in Hardware store/ Building supplies to stay in touch with the community. You have to have a plan good lord willing I'll make it happen

The first part, just knowing what you want to do. Connecting with Community, that's probably one of the most important things, and I didn't even mention that part of it.

I called it quits a age 56, now almost 62, it has been fabulous. I wear cargo shorts and fishing shirts every day, drive an old Jeep with no top even when it rains. Haven't done any of the things I thought I would do when I retired, but have done many things I never imagined I would do. Have not missed working a single minute, to all those that claim to love their job and would never retire, please get professional help, you have a problem.

I don't ever want to retire, that sounds so miserable. I think I will always want to build a new company or business because it is so much fun , at least until I am physically unable to and then I will probably be depressed.

That's the coolest thing about a good life to me.
I remember when I was 16, I actually thought I wanted to be a doctor, and that I would be that
Life changes on a dime.

Probably fighting arithtis, cancer, or some other sickness. That's why I try to do all I can in the present. Never know what tomorrow may bring.

I will work as long as I can. I've too many situations where men retire and atrify into senile former shells.
It's a fact that when grey matter is no longer actively stimulated (I.e. Working) it is lost, and hobbies or leisure activities do not suffice.
On the positive side, I'm in an industry that makes working in later years easy and enjoyable.
Wife will soon bypass my earnings and is much younger than me, so I have essentially a great excuse to quit before I'm 60.....but I thrive on the game.

I'll probably be in a nursing home shitting myself. Social Security, if even available, will probably be set at around 75 years old by the time I retire.

You and I have similar ideas. I retired on Dec 31st. I spent Jan unwinding from sales quotas and chasing ducks and deer. I had planned on doing something part time. A retired friend suggested taking a 3 month break and see how I liked it. I do not regret retiring one bit. I let the other poor guys fight the crowds on the water on weekends, praying the weather or wife allow them to go. I have been able to work on duck blinds, boats, fish, jump on my tractor, and do as much or little as I want. Now after almost 6 months---screw working. Wife and I are going to Wisconsin for a week for the LSU game in Sept. Then it is off to Wyoming in Oct bringing friends deer and antelope hunting(if successful on tag draw).
