I'm not sure about leather but the absolute best way to keep tennis shoes looking brand new is by using a Magic Eraser. It's unreal how well they work if you start using one as soon as you get your shoes.

Smart leather by Smartwax is what you need.

For boots, I love snoseal. Conditions the leather and waterproofs. Doesn't darken the leather like mink oil.

Leather new is a cheap and easy 1 step glycerin spray. I don't use it on my tack (I'm a little obsessive about that) but it is great for boots, etc.
Lexol conditioner can be found at Walmart in the car section and I use that on boots too. I hate the local cleaner, though.
For my saddle...
I love higher standards soap or even plain bar castille soap if it's really dirty. Then I've got some oakwood (I think, I got it on amazon) conditioner with tea tree and lanolin. Supposed to help with mildew too

I'm hearing mink oil a lot. Saddle soap is a soap which is a surfactant containing acid. I think it does damage to shoes??
Stay the frick away from mink oil. Get you a bottle of Leather Life. Mink oil is greasy and will attract dirt as well as make it impossible to shine you shoes to a high gloss.
Trust me.

I'll have to ask my valet, my shoes always seem to look pretty good

It puts the lotion on its skin

100% Neetsfoot oil is the correct answer. It is rendered from cow bones.

Famous horseman Craig Cameron uses a set of reins, daily, that are over 60 years old. Nothing but neetsfoots oil to preserve them.
