it's a lazy way to discipline, and for a lot of kids, it doesn't work at all. Spanking just made me angrier. I had less respect for my parents when they used corporal punishment, and I had zero respect for teachers who resorted to it.

I see a lot of little shits who need a good spanking. The total lack of respect they have in public settings for their parents is mind blowing.
But I'm not sure "Shut yo muthafrickin mouth", with I sometimes hear certain parents tell their kids in public, sends the right message either...

There was sufficient explanation of why I was getting spanked both before, during, and after the spanking occurred. I always knew what actions would result in a spanking but I liked to push things and see exactly what I could get away with.

Man it always sucked when my mom would make us pick our own switch off the fig tree we had in our backyard for our spanking.

Wasn't spanked much though, put fear in me to be good though.

I see a lot of spoiled, entitled, baby kids these days. Gonna guess they don't get spanked. One day their parents will wish they would have. I know I wish they would.

Can see the difference in my own family. The ones who were spanked and not babied have respect and are helpful.

Same for me. That's why I tried it when I was a new parent. It just didn't work for mine, and since I'm not hitting them for the hell of it, I moved on to methods that worked. Every child is different.

If my 4-year-old throws a fit, we make her jump on one foot in the corner. If she gets tired, she can change legs. She stops pretty quick.

I was at my Grandmother's house one day and thought I could misbehave because she was so nice. Turns out I was not good at picking a switch because after a few tries she went and found a good one herself.

I got the "pick-a-switch" in 1980's Alabama.

Spanking much more common in the 80s, esp in the South

And it wasn't even a hard spanking. Just enough to humiliate you really and kinda sting a lil.

So let me clarify, my parents spanked us if necessary....they didn't beat us.

I got frustrated with my niece one time while babysitting and spanked her. My sister got pissed off about it, but never confronted me about Iy, just complained to my other sister.

My other sister and BIL wouldnt care if I spanked their kids, but I try not, they have to be really bad before I would consider it. Even then, I just spat on them on the thigh.

I see kids that I know don't get spanked laugh when their parents threaten to ground them or take away their xbox...b/c most of the time they don't follow thru with the punishment.

My Mom tells me that when I was 3 or 4 she told me to go find a switch and I came back dragging a 2x4. She laughed so hard she couldn't whip me.
