Is there an outlet directly below the one you want to remove? If so it's probably just a couple of feet of wire down to the lower outlet.

True, but those couple of feet have to be stapled in according to code. It could still be a PITA to get the wire out but definitely doable.

Yea it seems to be just going to the bottom one. Its on its own 5' loop. Should be an easy fix

No way they staples those wires in from just an outlet hole. If they did, they will be easily accessible to remove.

That looks to be a box that was added after the house was built. It's not attached to any studs. It's probably fed from the outlet below it.
This for sure.

They're supposed to be stapled. Are they? I don't know and it's easy enough to find out with the circuit off. If they are like floss in the wall when you pull on them they aren't stapled in.

Who the hell installed that lower outlet ? It is out of code....not at correct height. Looks like you have a major problem on your hands. Hire the Electrical company with the biggest (preferably one entire page) ad in the yellow pages and make sure they are a union company. Tell them to check over your entire house and to do whatever it takes to make it all right.

I wouldn't leave wires in the wall without a termination box....I would get an electrician to kill the entire circuit.
Do it right. Pull the entire circuit out at that point. Pull back to the previous outlet. Don't wire nut a run of live wire back Intl a wall. You are asking for someone to come along later and hurt themselves if they don't know its there and wants to open that wall up.

That's an old work box likely tied it the receptacle directly below it. You can disconnect it from the lower receptacle and remove the upper box. Then just patch the hole

house was built with outlets in the walls for TVs. This room will be a nursery and I have no intention of installing a tv here.
Those TV outlets are tricky. I would have said you are probably going to want outlets in your nursery but since its a TV outlet you would need to get a new outlet installed if you want to power anything else.

The outlet below feeds the outlet on top. If you take the outlet on bottom out the box cut the wires that are going up. You can take everything on top out. Been doing electrical work for @ 15 years..
