With the number of bowl games they currently have, is it obvious that anyone that wants one will get one.

The Shreveport Independence bowl has been around a long time. Watched my best friend play in that game in the 80's. (Tulane). At the team/family dinner the night before it leaked out that Mack Brown was leaving Tulane after the bowl game. My friend was a freshman or sophomore and his mom went up to Mack and was reading him the riot act about lying to them etc. Quite a scene...

ps -just looked it up and inaugural game was 1976

used to be a fun little bowl to go to, food was awesome, not so much anymore, having the FEMA trailer park there was a nice touch though

Both times I went to that bowl it was freezing.

MSU ran a punt or kickoff back then Eddie Kennison returned the ensuing kickoff back for a TD. Really exciting game to be at. (I think I have that right)

You realize the IB has had an SEC tie in since 1995, and has been SEC vs. ACC since 2009(I think)?

It's meant to motivate college football programs to get there shite together and have a better season or else you're going to Shreveport.

ESPN had open time slots for their schedule so they were willing to broadcast anything remotely resembling a sporting event for the ad revenue opportunities. So they agreed to cover such intensity as East Outer Podunk 2,967th ranked University vs. Inner Western Outer Suburban Enrollment of About 300 College of the Islands

The intent for the Mideast game was to match the two best teams from nine states; Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.[1] In 1967, Louisiana was added to the Mideast region.[2] From 1964 to 1968, the game was played at Horace Jones Field in Murfreesboro. In 1969, due to cold weather and declining attendance at the Tennessee bowl site, the game was relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana,[3] where it was played at BREC Memorial Stadium through 1973.

I went to the Independance Bowl once. Hit up the casinos, pregamed with Superior margaritas, then had a nightcap at club Havana. It was a blast. You can have a great time anywhere if you relax and stop being a prude.

People up north hear Louisiana, and they think it's like New Orleans.

No burn, just an interesting fact.

Indy Bowl 2000. TAMU vs Miss State. It snowed the entire game.

The Indy Bowl had tradition because it was one of the older bowls. It was never meant to be the Sugar, Cotton, Fiesta, Citrus, or Rose Bowl. It was a nice option for 2 other schools to play. Shreveport never was or will be the ultimate destination for any 2 premier schools to play, but it keeps the season going for those players.

The addition of so many bowl games has bastardized bowl season to the point where they struggle to get a few thousand in the stands and the sponsors don't see the value. Bowls like the Indy Bowl don't have a chance because shitty bowls take place in better destinations now, too.

Depends on the perspective. No, it's not nearly as "old" as the Rose Bowl.

But consider that in 1976, the Indy Bowl's inaugural year, there were only 12 bowl games played. That puts it in more elite company and what makes many feel like it is one of the "older" bowl games.

There are 35 bowl games this year, not including the CFP games.
