How did all the Spirit employees get back home after their last flights?

Since it was so sudden, this must've been a logistical nightmare...I heard some audio from an ATC guy and a pilot. Must've been weird to step off the plane after your last flight, and the last flight for the plane (not sure if sold or going to airplane graveyard).

Other carriers flew them home for free using flight benefits.

My brother and his wife were stuck in Ft Lauderdale bc they cancelled their flight 
they had to drive to Miami and buy a 1/2 off United ticket back home

Spirit put out a notice that employees would be flown to their home hub for free on other carriers... and they may or may not need to stay at a hotel until said flight... also for free

This has been coming for a few weeks now. I understand the employees, but passengers should have paid attention and not kept flying Spirit.
