Posted this on the travel board but I’ll drop it here too.
I booked a hotel room in New Orleans Jan 11th-14th in the hopes that both the Saints and Tigers are playing that weekend in NOLA. They called me a month ago telling me the rates have changed and are a being sold as non-refundable, however, I made the reservation before these rates were applied. I was walking into a meeting and told them to call me back but I haven’t heard back.

What says everyone here? Should I be able to argue this or is there fine print saying they can changes rates on confirmed bookings? I’ve searched for the T&C’s but haven’t found anything.

We’re on the same page. Not my fault they’re dumbasses and didn't look at the event calendar before they opened up those dates

Precisely. I would fight that until they showed me something saying they could change it.

frick that. Take them to court for all the mental anguish this has caused you.

Do you still have the confirmation?

Did you book hotel direct or through a third party? (Expedia, booking.com etc?)

Generally, they will do what they want but there are ways to shame them more than the few hundred bucks would be worth to most hotels

Ultimately unless you are willing to go to court- what are you going to do when they cancel it and shrug their shoulders?

It becomes a game of how can you make their life hard for not honoring it at that point.

Yeah they still have the confirmation and it was booked directly with the hotel. I’ll just try and guilt trip them if/when they do call back. Obviously this all depends on a good football season for Louisiana

Complete horseshite.

I stay in hotels a lot, and i’ve had them try to pull similar crap on me before.. Contact the GM and let them know you booked under different booking rules; if the GM is the one that contacted you already, then go to corporate (assuming it’s part of the Marriott brand, Hilton, or similar).. if they tried to pull something like that on you, i can safely assume that it’s corporately owned.

No ones doing this without GM support up front and rarely do the HQs have the ability to force the issue.

But these are certainly ways to cause headaches, and it’s distinctly possible they are using a “most people wont even complain beyond a snarky comment when we call, so let’s see what we can easily get away with” approach and any pushback is rewarded with honoring the agreement

Id stress to them that all you want is the room you had agreed upon with them and if they can’t provide that they should be ready to defend the choice in every social media they can imagine and a few they didn’t even think of. Weekly, for the next 6 months.

I’d also say their management company might be more able to influence than the brand too... if taking the time to call a corporate office, the one signing paychecks and cashing your check has way more sway.

Oh if they cancel, you're screwed. But if they don't, I wouldn't pay a higher rate than what I booked.

Independent branded boutique. Has turned over management/ownership a few times since opening.

Cool property, but yea, you’ll probably have to really twist arms and hope some party involved does have long term interest. I think they’ve had 3 different directors of sales and 2 GMs on the last year even. And a bit known to punt on issues when they can. They regular catch hell for blocking bike lanes and traffic and always point at the valet company as if they have no influence.

It’s a salamander property, which might be your best resource if the GM doesn’t fix it.

oh ok, looks great...I've not stayed there yet.

Like others have said, I just tell them you have a confirmed booking. That's really bad for business to do this to customers after booking a room. Let us know once you speak with them, shite is crazy

Had a situation a couple months ago that was similar.. i had booked a room at a hotel in Miami for next year’s Super Bowl in 2020, just in case the Saints make it- which i do every year wherever the game is played.. Chick wrote me in March saying they had changed the rules, wanting to charge my CC an advance payment.. i responded in no uncertain terms that she did not have my permission to charge my card; it’s been a couple months, no charge and still have the reservation
