they sent me a bill for $900 because a nurse practitioner gave my 3 year old son 600mg ibuprofen...now they want to know if I have any masks to donate?

I'm with the OP on this one.

1) Why do they need N95 masks? The feds have been telling us that you are more likely to get infected by wearing a mask. As a health care practitioner exposed to the virus day in and day out why would you want to increase you're chances of catching the covid?

2) If they really want some, I've got a dozen left over that I'll sell for $200 each. Hospitals had no problem charging some uninsured women $35,000 for her covid stay.

The thing is doctors and nurses pass the blame of milking insurance and patients on to corporate when a lot of the boards are made up of doctors. You have the power to change it but you don't because the status quo pays for your tramp stamps and Crocs if you're a nurse or your club and greens fees if your a doctor.

Sounds like your issue is with the shitty privatized health care industry, friend.

The big question Scruffy has is whether the masks actually degrade during that time or whether the manufacturer just puts an arbitrary number on the package to keep them buying supplies.

Scruffy already knows the answer to that question.

I can tell you exactly where those "expired" masks go.

Please tell me how a regular nurse...who has the same crappy insurance most everyone else does... has this power you speak of to change the way insurance companies and hospitals work.

Some people seem to think those of us working in healthcare have this amazing insurance. Yeah that ain’t true at all. Many hospitals will go with the cheapest insurance options they can find for their employees to save money.

I'm reading about many hospitals using the UV tower to create a room where N95s can be UV'd and decontaminated.

Do you think I should start checking with hospitals to see if they can use the masks I can get? I'm not planning to donate them, but not looking to profit either.

Hell, I'll just give them the contact info and let them decide for themselves.

Can’t hurt to contact them.

Maybe talk with their supply department.

It's not a matter of afford at this point

They can't order them. No stock.

Well if the money grabbing Dr’s and money whore hospital administrations would quit the elective surgeries they might have enough. Instead hospital administrations around the state are still letting this go on. It’s the nurses, techs and other essential hospital personnel that suffer bc of lack of supply, yet you hear drs from around the country begging for PPE.
TELL YOUR frickING DR PEERS TO QUIT USING WHAT YOU SO DESPERATELY NEED FOR ELECTIVE SURGERY.

Some of you motherfrickers are as stupid as can be. The quantities of ppe required now are so much greater than what is normally required. Entire ICU units in New Orleans are full of nothing but covid patients on ventilators. Healthcare personnel are having to reuse single use gowns by multiple users because there simply is no more in supply. You are asking healthcare providers to put there health at risk to take care of patients. Most would bear that risk without much thought but don't you think the thought of them becoming sick and spreading this to their young infant children at home...or perhaps an elderly family member in their care crossed their mind. I've got a four month old at home motherfrickers and I can tell you it crosses mine. Think about that before you start taking potshots at nurses and doctors and the rest of the frontline staff taking care of these people. Pray it's not you or a family member that becomes ill. Bet your tune will change.

Hospitals try to f over any patient they can because they know they have them over a barrel. I see no problem with Geaux getting market value for his N95s.

I get that the public sees corona nurses and doctors like the 9/11 firemen and first responders but they aren't untouchable and the health industry is a scam.

I'll have to rosin my bow and bust out my Cremona for the sob stories of the hospitals that claim to be bleeding money and going out of business.

I'm not talking shite about doctors or nurses or Frontline. The hospitals are crooks and will bill you for expenses that are not necessary because they know your insurance will cover. It's a terrible for profit industry that needs to be revamped. It's also a joke chill

My wife's hospital provided insurance only insures if she sees a doc AT THAT HOSPITAL and only covers scrips filled at the hospital pharmacy. It's garbage because if you're a HC worker in that hospital, you're terrified to go seek mental health services because the hospital automatically knows everything you're doing.

Putting your children at risk is a joke to you. I can guarantee you podnah it's not a joke in a lot of hospitals right now. And my comment was aimed mostly at the dumbass that my reply was to saying it was the nurses were worried about money for Crocs and tramp stamps and doctors for their greens fees. Healthcare providers aren't facing economic pressures right now which many are which can put nerves on edge. But they are facing pressures regarding their health or the health of their children or families.
