Because you’ll be wearing them anytime in the future whenever dear government decides this year’s cold and flu season is a little rougher than usual.. or whatever other flavor of the year virus makes its way over from China. This is the precedent now. Enjoy.

o, let me get this straight. Your point is that by not exposing yourself to viruses and other bacteria that get you sick, you're more likely to get sick?
Umm, yeah...

You really think the human immune system doesn’t get stronger by defending itself?
The Native Americans would love that one.

We've had lots of medical organizations explain how to stop the spread of this one, but you guys don't want to do it cuz muh constitution!
Nah. It’s got nothing to do with the constitution. It’s got to do with the fact that I don’t sit down to pee, bitch.
quote:
Based on what? Your deep scientific knowledge of infectious disease and modeling within a worldwide population?
Uhhhh, no. The fact that I’m not a fricking moron? You’re telling me that if people didn’t wear masks that we would have had no more infections? Awesome. We have found common ground! Masks are stupid and don’t do shite!
quote:
Yeah, because significant measures were taken across the country. You think that would have happened it we maintained full on business as usual?
Do I think we would still be producing items needed to care for infected people needing treatments and hospitalization at a rate as high as we are now if we had more people sick? Uhhhh, yes, dumbass. Do you even think this shite through or are you legitimately retarded?
quote:
And now there's a need...and some of the smartest medical minds and companies in the world are working on it and will figure it out
And what need do you think there is? If it’s anything other than to do with money, you’re even dumber than I thought. There is a “need” for a vaccine for the common cold. Whomever could create one of those would basically overnight become the richest person/company in the world. It hasn’t happened because it’s like, hard and shite.
quote:
I'm one of those who knew what would happen if this thing spiked again
So you knew that hospitalization and death rates would plummet to levels that prove this to be as serious as the flu? Good call man. I made a thread on that exact same thing several months ago.

What if I told you that regardless if you wear a mask or not, you and everyone you come in contact with will be exposed to coronavirus?

I would ask where you got that information from. And I would ask if you knew that if we're both wearing a mask and distancing it would drastically reduce both of our chances of getting sick. There needs to be exposure to a certain level of the virus for it to take hold...so catching a tiny bit of a cough or sneeze is better than catching the full brunt of it.
If we can reduce the number of people each sick person infects to a low r-naught it will go away.

Wut?
That’s like catching just a little bit of herpes.

Baw, seriously...you were never ahead, but you continue to illustrate how uninformed you are.
quote:
The amount of virus necessary to make a person sick is called the infectious dose. Viruses with low infectious doses are especially contagious in populations without significant immunity.
quote:
A high infectious dose may lead to a higher viral load, which can impact the severity of Covid-19 symptoms.
Viral load is a measure of virus particles. It is the amount of virus present once a person has been infected and the virus has had time to replicate in their cells. With most viruses, higher viral loads are associated with worse outcomes.
quote:
A higher dose is clearly worse, though, and that may explain why some young health care workers have fallen victim even though the virus usually targets older people.
So yes, like I said, getting hit with a full sneeze from someone who is infected is way worse than getting some offshoot of a cough or sneeze from someone.

Ah, the familiar message board retort...proven wrong, resort to an attempt at a personal attack.
To put a bow on exposing your stupidity. The actual headline:
quote:
It’s Not Whether You Were Exposed to the Virus. It’s How Much.
The pathogen is proving a familiar adage: The dose makes the poison.

Spring/summer flu season.

1) it’s sad you think that was an attack.
2) Forgive me if I question a persons medical understanding who doesn’t understand how basic viruses, or vaccines.
3) Care to explain the “just wear anything” comment by your master broom?
4) New York Times, are you serious?

Let me guess, the rest of the world is playing along because they hate Trump?
Also, there hasn't been more than 61,000 deaths from the flu in the US in the last 10 years. Even if you take out a portion of the reported deaths (because I agree there were a lot attributed to the rona which likely weren't), it still completely obliterates that number.
Not to mention, it's not currently flu season and this thing is spreading like crazy.

I didn't have any idea who this guy is before today...and still don't know. But if I had to guess, it's that wearing something...even a tshirt pulled up over your face...is better than nothing at all. I'd agree with that.

I can find five more links that say the exact same thing, with quotes from other doctors saying the same thing. You want to try and find a single credible source that says that if you're exposed to a single coronavirus, you'll get sick?
Let me know if you want to take me up on that.
