It you raise the exemption to 200K, anyone with a home valued at more than 300K would be paying more in property tax, in some case a lot more.

Due to the loss of revenue, the school board, police, fire, library, and parish will roll the millage forward to off set the loss.

Since now all houses below 200K aren't paying any taxes, all the taxes will be paid by homes valued at more than 200K. The homes valued between 200K-300K would be relatively the same, but more than 300K you are paying more.

shite a few years ago republicans wanted to lower it because “the poors didn’t have to pay anything”. Keep in mind most industries are allowed to destroy our infrastructure while paying zero in property taxes. In other words, good luck getting any traction on this.

I’d dare say most folks in small parishes arent even paying what they’re supposed to. Most homes are undervalued by the assessor, its political suicide to assess property.

It's a scam, inflate prices, drive a price war and collect a shite load of taxes on new value.

Our home has gone up 140k. Since we bought it. It ain't worth that, but our taxes are based on the newer figures.

Sure, we could get the extra 140k, but you cant find a house with the back yard we have, fenced in for even our new inflated price. We'd have to come out of pocket after making 140k, to only use that plus out if pocket to get anything close
