Home poker is where I’d say 80+% of good poker players are now playing.
Somebody asked about L’Auberge and I said they have a ton of card sharks. That are there most nights a week preying on drinks.
Personally I grew tired of playing with the same random people. I don’t mind playing with the same people, but not total fandoms that get mad at me if I take a couple of their hands or play somebody on a bluff.
Trying to remember the exact sequence but a pretty nice older black man that I had played with a few times tried to fight me and was quickly escorted out.
I think it went something like I beat him with a good hand.
Bluffed him personally for a pretty good pot, he says something like “if I fold, you gonna show me?” I did a quick nod right before he folded and I mucked the cards.
Did it again and showed him something like deuce nine with nothing on the board and he got up and said that’s it and bam there was security.
Happened so quick I thought the dealer had a special button or something.
Played a few more hands and the dealer explained that wasn’t his first beef with another player.
Had to get up and go, I wasn’t in a good place mentally to be playing after that happened

Not a chance. Even the "home games" the really good players play aren't in Bubba's basement. They're high end with serious money. I know plenty of really good poker players that play full time in casinos.
Sounds like that poker room is just super tiny.

I probably over estimated.
You have to keep in mind the cities that aren’t near a casino.
When I go “home” I play a few games a week with some guys that would never step foot in a casino for a vast number of reasons.
These guys have more money than I expect to ever touch and they are very loose with it.
Edit : definitely not bubbas basement.
More like, Larry’s Lake House for the weekend and a couple of games.

Lauberge BR poker room has relatively small stakes and the rake is too damn high.
Most of the higher stakes action in and around BR are private because they got tired of playing with the hoodie and sunglasses crowd who bitch about a 12 dollar raise and are antisocial.
That being said, I have always found mixed game home games to be the most fun. Holdem gets boring and it is relatively solved in that most people have a decent idea how to play.

Home game I play in is just a straight cash game. It’s tougher than playing at harrahs Nola or hard rock Biloxi

We play a lot of 7 card stud, mixed with follow the queen, low Chicago in the hole gets half the pot, suicide king/one eyed jacks wild. Booray sometimes
Hold em tourneys too. But not as much as we used to.
Got one hold em game called Hurricsne that is really fun. And match the pot can make the checkbooks come out on a 25 cent ante.
