The fact that we’re trying to address existing student loan debt and not the cause is arse backwards

That's the thing. I'd actually be ok with doing something for student loan borrowers(not forgiveness - maybe 0% interest) IF they actually addressed the underlying cause.

Until then it doesn't make sense to do anything...it's just going to keep happening.

A quick update. He got awarded the Stamps scholarship which pays full tuition and expenses at LSU. But then Brown matched the scholarship offer, so he is going to Brown. So proud of the dude!!

Congrats, smart kid.

I am curious why you would have even entertained LSU, with a child smart enough for Ivy League. Brown is ranked #13 in US and LSU is #179, that is a bit of a gap

He is planning pre-med so the goal was to get through undergrad with zero debt. Brown was 95k without aid

Congrats to both of you! If the student truly deserves to be there, and keeps trying to find a way, it typically always seems to work out!

Tuition and fees? That would be 2200 today

Fees were minimal in the late 90s, probably under $150, until about 98. The "tech" fee was instituted, and when TOPS was implemented, fees exploded. Which was entirely predictable.

25k/year for LSU?!?? 100k for a 4 year degree. the world is insane

25 years ago that could possibly get you a degree from Tulane or Loyola.

I would imagine that those places are eclipsing 500k to million now.

My nephew is in the Auburn flight school with out of state rates. $37,000 + cost of living not counting 1500 hours of flight time.

When I started at Auburn in 1964, it was $100 per quarter plus cost of living.

Think about it. You’re 19-20 years old making bank while all your friends are stuck in school racking up debt. Fast forward two decades and you’re collecting disability because you can no longer carry that 40lb bag of roofing shingles up a ladder.

This is an absolute terrible take. If after 20 years you’re still carrying the shingles you probably weren’t college material from jump. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills, you thinking trades don’t make money?

I went to tech school, 400 a semester, no loans to pay back and make more than both sisters with their master's degrees

Brown's mission statement last I read it was "We are not a pre-professional training program." My first thought was are they a post adolescent daycare program?
