What are the rules regarding fights? Looks like they let them go till someone hits the ground...are there ejections?

Incredible hockey fight link to Twitter... everyone involved

That’s reminiscent of Red Wings v Avalanche fights in the 1990s, although those were far more brutal and involved far more blood. They fought off of the puck drop on multiple occasions, at the same time both were at the highest level of hockey and winning Stanley Cup. The mid Ice goalie throw down ala Patrick Roy is pretty rare.

The NHL has a code. As long as it was “ fair “ and all were game for the fight and no sticks were involved, it’s a slap on the wrist. Any intent to injure combined with injury is where they throw the book at a guy. They have cleaned it up a LOT .

Back in the day, in Texas, if both men were armed, and no one was shot in the back, it was considered a "fair shooting", not a murder.

In international hockey you are ejected. In North American hockey you get a 5 minute penalty for fighting and allowed to return. Unless you get 2 instigator penalties or in 3 fights in a single game than you are thrown out.

Fighting is dying out in the modern sport. Rarely do you see these type of line brawls and even more rare is the goalie fight. People want it out of the game but I still think it has a place in the game to protect your star guys. Same with hitting a guy in baseball, there is a time and place for it.

Dont spear the goalie and he wont blast u with his blocker ... old time hawkey between flames and oilers ... battle of Alberta
Goalie fight was cool. Fighting gets u ejected in minor hockey. Once u get to junior or pro hockey its a 5 min penalty.

There's a lot of unwritten nuance to the NHL fight rules.

Depending on circumstance can be anywhere from a 2 minute roughing minor to a game misconduct which carries ejection.
