Heck if I know. If I were to just give a guess, I would say it looks like pics of old Brownings I have seen before. Other than that, I don't even know...

WWI day it will be!

Well there's a good reason that it looks like a picture of Old Brownings... that's because it was designed by none other than John Browning himself. However, the pistol was not produced by Browning here in America. Instead this pistol was produced by FN in Belgium. It was known as the FN Model 1910. As for historic significance, this was the pistol used by Gavrilo Princip to assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria which was the spark that ignited WWI.

HMS Iron Duke. She was the flagship of the British Grand Fleet during WWI.

Was that the glider built by the guy backed by Alexander Graham Bell?
Forgot his name. Dude tried so hard to name the Wright brothers out to be frauds that it wasn't until 1947 that the brothers were officially recognized as first in flight.

No this is the German " Rumpler Taube". She was one of the very first mono-planes ever produced. The Germans used it from everything from a trainer to recon, to bomber & fighter.

Ok here is another. Name the ship, type, and what is she known for?

It is a US 4 stack destroyer. Without a hull number, it's impossible to tell them apart.

Having said that, I've seen that photo enough to know that it is the USS Ward - which fired the first shot of the Pacific war and with her second shot sank the first warship lost by either side in the Pacific war.

Related to the ward, her commanding officer on 7 December was William Outerbridge.

What historically interesting thing did Outerbridge do on 17 October 1944?

That's the German Albatros DI. Perhaps one of the best fighters of the war.

German Albatross fighter.

The Red Baron is forever linked to the Fokker Triplane but he got most of his kills flying various versions of the Albatross.

Exactly, including an extended fight where he finally killed the opposing pilot after shooting him in the head. I read where he credited hi twin MG's.

No clue other than WW-1ish.

WTF is that over the barrel? Some type of recoil reduction mechanism?

With the second view - early anti tank gun?

Yep. I'm going to stay on a WWI theme today to honor the 100th anniversary of the start of the war.

It is the recoil mechanism.

When this gun was introduced tanks did not exist. However, it was sometimes used in a anti-tank role later on in WWII.
