Look at the stains on the terra cotta tiles in the foreground. They're all identical. Also there are no shadows anywhere.

Gentile or Godfrey - no way I can tell which with that picture.

I'll guess Gentile by the hair?

"Unique?" Goering hated them, personally. Not sure what you're looking for here.

Correct. It is a poor pic of Gentile in his famous P-51B, the Shangri-La. Him and Godfrey were called the "two man airforce" due to their teamwork and efficiency at destroying enemy a/c. At one point, Gentile was in the running for top ace of the ETO. He was grounded after a bit of showing off after a mission and flew his P-51 to low and bent the prop and subsequently crashing in a field. He did a tour selling war bonds and flying in to show off a P-51D under the same name of Shangri-La. Ironically, he was killed in a crash while testing the T-33.

This is one half of the "two man airforce."

Don Gentile (pictured) and Johnny Godfrey. Both high scoring pilots who regularly flew as a section/pair. One wartime article called them the 'Damon and Pythias" of the air war.

ETA, Dammit, you just beat my response!

It wasn't unique to just them, but both started the war in RCAF Eagle squadrons.

I just think they processed the trophy shot to bring the light out and faces up. I've seen other versions of that picture, plus this from the series:

I think it is a legitimate source photograph that has been "over" processed.

Speaking of past posts, I just realized nobody got this airplane:

They're Italian Fiat Br.20 medium bombers. The ones in the photo were used by the Japanese Army Air Force in both their war against China and their brief 1939 war with the Soviet Union.

I'm sure you've noticed that I've been trying to up the challenge by posting aircraft & ships being used by forces other than those with whom they're normally associated.

I figured the Japanese script would throw people off. The Br-20 was very widely used by the Italian Air Force in WW2, but not many people know it was also used by the Japanese.

OK, resetting and making it a little more difficult. Name this ship/era. There are no pics of actual, so had to use a model.
