Since we are off the military history track for the moment. What/where is this?

Ole boy is working at the top of Empire State Building? Isn't that the (then brand new) Chrysler building in the background?

Most modern war movies are that way. Have yet to see a new one that doesn't fit history to what they think the audience wants to see.

Sad but true.

This one may be too easy...

Who are these two guys?

I'm pretty sure that is the Chrysler building in the background. He's got to be up on the Empire State Building. The only thing I'm not sure about is he looks to be much much higher than then Chrysler Building and I did not think there was that big a deference between the two.

Nicholas II and George V - I've probably seen that picture over the years, but, I guess not blown up - they're cousins, but they could almost pass for twins based on this picture.

The old movies had a lot of mistakes and that can be excused to a degree due to limitations on the technology they had then. But remember the movie Pearl Harbor from a few years ago? There was no excuse for all the mistakes they made.

That's why I can forgive things like using M48s in Patton. There wasn't exactly a surplus of Panzers or Tigers laying around and CGI didn't exist. IMO, it was acceptable to substitute as long as you got the story straight. Tora! Tora! Tora! was a great example. The airplanes weren't Zeros, Kates, or Vals and the ships were modern USN but it was so well done I still watch it today.

Never, ever again mention that modern movie loosely based on the events of 7 December 1941 again. All copies should be shredded. Aside from making a total mockery of the story, you're going to do a really good CGI of the Oklahoma rolling over but splice in 40 year old Tora! Tora! Tora! footage for other parts and think nobody's gonna notice?!

Apparently more than I thought as well, but there is also the issue of perspective, depth of field, plus the photographic equipment at the time. I see contemporary pictures of the buildings:

which illustrate the differences.

I think that is about a 325 foot difference in roof heights, and about 200 foot difference between the spires.

Correct, sir!

Heck if I would do that crap. My wife's Grandfather did some construction work in Chicago on the highrises after WWII.

This. I really liked Tora! Tora! Tora! and watch it every time its on. But that recent crap? Hell no. Even the latest air movies are hideous.

Interesting. It's got to be the Empire State Building that guy is on but in the picture he looks to be a good distance away from the Chrysler Building while in your picture they look pretty close. Appearances can be deceiving I guess.

They're about a mile or so apart, as the crow flies.

It's a little over a half a mile between ESB and Chrysler.

Flyboys comes to mind right away. The movie was supposed to take place in 1915-1916 before the US entered the war but the Germans were using Fokker DR. 1 Triplanes that were not seen over the front until 1917 -1918.
