One of tGOAT explorers and abolitionists?

Pretty shitty missionary, though. Apparently he converted 1 person in 30 years. He also got a lot of people killed on the Zambezi River.

Nevertheless he is revered by the locals. I have stood on the shores of Lake Nyasa looking across at the Livingstone mountains on the other shore.

Livingstone was a great man who did a lot of good things. He had a crazy death story. He was so sick that men had to carry him around, so he asked them to put him kneeling by his bed so he could pray. After doing that, the men left him alone out of respect for him and his relationship with God. After not hearing from him in a while, they went in an found him dead kneeling in prayer.

After his death, the African people took his heart and buried it in Africa because it is said that his heart was always with Africa. He was also greatly respected in England and buried center of the nave of Westminster Abbey.

At the site in northeast Zambia where Livingstone died and his heart is buried stands a tall stone pillar with several inscriptions, including one added on the centenary of his death: “After 100 years David Livingstone’s spirit and the love of God so animated his friends of all races that they gathered here in Thanksgiving on 1st May 1973, led by Dr Kenneth David Kaunda, President of the Republic of Zambia.” President Kaunda led the singing and dancing and lauded Livingstone as Africa’s “first freedom fighter.”

Anyway, great man who was extremely respected and viewed very highly by history and everyone he contacted.
