When I was 16 I worked in a McDonald's in a small town in Iowa. The service we provided was on par with the chik filas of the south, but that's a rare exception. I should point out that most of us (the workers) had a great work ethic instilled in us from our parents though, coming from the rural type background. It was a highschool job for us though, like it should be, and just a small step in our path to become engineers, lawyers, doctors, etc. Nowadays the people who work there seem to think it's a career and want 15 an hour to do some half arse quality work compared to when I was there.

Welcome to McDonald’s, may I take ya’ order?
The full McDonald's drive through experience
Pull into one of 2 lanes.
Hear them take 3 orders in a row in the other lane before switching to you. Finally get to you.
"Wud ya like ta try 'incohent Ebonics' today?"
Me: No thanks
Her: what can I get ya
Me: Number one large with a sweet tea and a mcflurry
Her: ice cream machine is broke
Me: ok just give me the meal
Her: that be all?
Me: yes
Her: number one large with a coke?
Me: no I want a sweet tea
Her: pull round
My turn to go next and get cut off by a-hole in other drive through lane. Flip him off. Get to window
Her: suh can you pull up we will have someone bring your food
Me: ok
Get food in 10 minutes as cars behind me get their food and drive past me. Order is wrong so I have to park and go inside anyways

Most fast food places in the suburbs are high school/college kids. I used to go to Popeyes in Frisco and get treated like I was at chik fil a.
I was in Tuscaloosa this weekend and stopped at their new Whataburger. They had a college kid working outside with an umbrella to walk people to their cars in the pouring rain. I was impressed

My daughter worked a summer at McD's. Nothing I could have told her about getting her degree and doing something with her life was more convincing than that summer she spent working there.

I don't go to mcdonalds any longer. The new Chic-a-fila in Gonzales provides me with wonderful customer service and I love eating grilled chicken sandwiches.

I pull into a Wendy’s, because for some unknown reason my son likes it and we had baseball practice and no time to go home for dinner. All the lights outside are off. About 8:45. I tell my son they may be closed. We pull around to the window and there is a crew in there. Lady comes to the window and looks at me inquisitively like, what are you doing? Tell her all the lights are out and wondering if they are open. She yells back inside, “hey pookie, go get them lights on. Give her the order and then she asks me to pull up and wait.

I’ve never heard a McDonald’s employee be that polite.
About to say, I’ve never heard any of them be that polite. Usually some variation of “what you want”

I did it. In the 80s. Started in high school and was made a manager when I graduated. That job helped put me through my first couple of years of LSU.
My first job was a great start on how to work with others, be on time, rewarded for doing your job, and overall good stuff.

The one I go to once in a while has mostly minority employees. They greet you like, "whatcha need?"
