Ah finally the real side of you comes out. Neither you nor the vast majority of blacks in New Orleans that are supporting this boondoggle care about these monuments. The vast majority of the city black and white can't tell you where most of these statues are located and can't tell you any facts about the soldiers on each monument. You support this as a middle finger to whites and that is it. Rather than wanting the city to spend this money on police and schools, which this city needs desperately, you'd rather this little "win".

Hopefully once these monuments are down this will finally allow the African American population in this city get out of the basement in every measurable statistic available.

I'm not even gonna read all that.

I will just respond with this. There is no such thing as race relations. It is a political talking point.

So when I say NOPD was around prior to slavery.

And you post a gif of Trump saying "wrong"

What are you saying?

Let's review first what you said.

quote:

You realize that police force was created before the civil war dumb frick face shite head?

If you take the time to read what you posted RE NOPD, you'll see that the NOPD was not one continuous force, rather it was made up of a disparate discrete group of forces that were in power from one point in time to another.

It at one point comprised of militias, another point of small groups of police.

Following the civil war the Metropolitan Police were installed by the Republican Reconstruction government. This police force did not exist prior to the civil war. It only existed from 1868-1877 It included blacks, it was fully integrated, and it most definitely did not chase down slaves (there were none to go after). This group also had officers die defending New Orleans during the Battle of Liberty Place. After the battle a monument was erected honoring both sides (including the dead metropolitan police officers). This is the same monument you think should be torn down.

Couldn't help myself I read it.

The confederates lost. I am sure everyone knows that.

This argument can be used against those who support the statues being up.

quote:

You support this as a middle finger to whites and that is it

This is a middle finger to terrorism past and present. See that's your problem cuck you equate this as a black people hate white people thing and its not but you want it to be. Because your people long to be the victim.

I would rather it go to buying you some friends.

It will bookmark it.

Exactly so what do you think happened to all those good ole baws once their militias and police groups were disbanded?

Let me give you a hint.

lol. No. Mitch did this to cater to himself and only himself. It gets him national tv time. It's a huge talking point he can use on his next campaign. This is all for him and his resume. He doesn't care about anyone else.

I just don't see how he thinks this would be good for him in a state that usually goes conservative. Sure, he'll get the urban vote, but he was already getting that. But conservatives have already learned their lesson from going dem with JBE, so not sure what he thinks this will help him with.

Someone I know that covers Las Vegas politics recently told me this..."for the last 2 decades, this city has been run by a former mob lawyer, then his wife. I thought that we had it bad. Then, I started learning about the last 2 mayors to run New Orleans."

They joined the White League and fought the Metropolitan Police at the Battle of Liberty Place. The white league was comprised of mostly ex Confederate vets who wanted to take down the Republican Reconstruction Govt (they succeeded for the most part).

The Reconstruction Republicans then are not what the Republicans are now. Historically it was Yankees that came down to the South after the civil war. They were called carpetbaggers, and it was they who integrated the police force and gave more rights to freed blacks.

Back in the day the Democrats ruled the south, and it was their policies that lead to Jim Crow, etc.

I feel like you don't have a good grasp of the history here- which is fine- but it makes it difficult to hold a conversation about the topic when you don't know what's going on.

There is literally no way he wins state wide office. None, zero. Especially after this fiasco.
