I personally believe that US Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don't have maps, and I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and the Iraq, everywhere like such as. Our education over here in the US, should help the US, or should help South Africa, and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future. For our children.

I mean you have maps at the click of a button. Imagine thinking this is great information to have in your head

Because if they don’t have a general lay of the land in their head they may wind up in Columbus,OH when they want to go to Columbus,MS.

I had a World Globe that I spun for hours. The National Geographic maps were always great.

Try teaching US history over 36 weeks. You cant cover everything. Start with Columbus, revolutionary war, civil war. WW 1 & 2, vietnam, us presidents. States/capitals, depression, etc. Something gets prioritized but other stuff you cant get to. Not enough time in 1 school year.

Parents have to help educate their kids, school has it's limitations.

You want your kid to learn civics? Send an email to your local representative in the state legislature. Ask if they can shadow them for a day. If you live in a big city, do it at the municipal level. Guarantee they will agree.

Might as well have the kid intern with a mob boss.

That said, the kid is kind of strange but he's wicked smart. Just turned 14. He fairly routinely will be doing something like eating a piece of toast and then look at it, then me and say, "This looks like Spain, if you include Portugal."

This was the hardest I laughed all day

I used to love looking at the big Road Atlas. I still love geography, at least US. I’m always looking where places such as a town I’ve never heard of is on a map. It drives me crazy when someone can’t point to a place like Montana on a map.
