Fishbowl faces East/West and its hot as hell in the kids rooms.

Local solar screen installer is charging $45/window for standard crossbar and $90 with gridwork.

I was wondering if any of you have successfully done it yourself?

It looks like I can do it per window with crossbar for roughly $20. I have 7 windows in the back that I can do and I will hire out the front 3 with arches and gridwork.

My buddy did it with my help. It was fairly easy. Just measure and cut. There much easier to assemble with someone assisting you.

On homes that really bake, you can see a 25-30% reduction in cooling costs.

I did it on the west side of my prior house. Did it myself and I'm moderately handy at best. The difference was pretty dramatic.

I would get the windows tinted. Costs more but works way better than screens and looks better.

Tint works no where near as well. They have a local mom and pop in denham that do it and are super nice and I found reasonably priced. I did my entire house because I wanted them to match. Cost me about 1000 for about 15 windows

The savings were definitely there and it was a nice little selling point when we sold. We were happy with them and it worked out to a good little chunk of savings. Not to mention furniture, painting , etc.. fading

I may not even install windows in my next house. Between the blinds and curtains I rarely if ever look out them. Certainly don't need as many as I have. For looks maybe but I could just throw a couple of these in the front and make it look like I do.
