Both registers were 5 people deep with blue hairs and I walked up to one of the 4 (out of 6) self-checkout kiosks that were open and breezed right out.

Two registers. Gas stations have more than that

I don't mind self checkout being an option, but it's an absolute shite show as a requirement.

I use Lowes multiple times a day. Not really bad considering. Kroger, on the other hand, is the most frustrating place in the world regarding self checkouts. Between the constant prompts to not frick with the bagging area and regular problems with accepting cash when it's supposed to, you have the dreaded too many items prompt. To add on to that, when it screws up, you spend 10 minutes looking around for the teenage kid to come alleviate your issues. Have walked a couple of times.with groceries in tow. Not a thief normally but I've got better things to do than wait longer to checkout than I did to shop. Yet I keep going back. Glutton for punishment I guess.

Your move.

I was at Albertsons and had to wait in line for a self checkout and it also took 3 minutes to get the cashier to come over to scan the screen for alcohol.

Your move. the whole process still sucks and if we are having to do things ourselves it shouldn't cost as much.

I take a few items here and there to compensate me for doing their job.

All that was open, and they usually don't have baggers anymore either.

Wait... So you're saying self-checkout was faster? You're part of the problem.

It took me longer at the self checkout than had i stayed in the other line.

If they would have had more cashiers we could have blown thru there like the good ole days before you fricks came in and over crowded the place. Now everything is double the price and more of a pain in the arse

I go to my local ACE HARDWARE. It’s rare I leave without what I’ve needed.

I agree. Publix had baggers too. You almost couldn't find a parking spot in the lot, yet I walked right up to an open register.

Self checkouts are a shite show around here unless it's mostly people with 5 items, and I don't want to ring up myself if I have 30 items.

They are a pain in the arse to buy booze. The attendant has one job and they even put a flashing light on top to get their attention and I still have to wave them over half the time. I'll give you that.
