I don't see anything in the news. Usually drownings make the news.

Unfortunately true. Just a horrible situation, teenager with their entire lives in front of them, gone in an instant. Can't imagine what the family is going through

This is horrible. Do you know details on what happened? Was it a drowning?

It was a drowning. That's all I'm willing to put on a public message board, I'm not sure all of the other info I've been told is accurate, and I have no idea who knows or what the family is sharing publicly.

OK. Just curious. I was thinking he probably hit his head because most 16 year olds that are in a pool know how to swim. So sad. You are right, whole life ahead of him.

OMR has it right. Not many details actually known but what he says is accurate. Kid with a great spirit and he’ll be a loss for many. Lots of people hurting and stunned, not to mention what the family is going through. Prayers for the family and friends.

I was just told by someone that lives in that neighbor that there is security camera video, he was swimming laps and simply stopped.

So this happened in a pool and not a lake or river? That's weird. I wonder if he had some sort of heart episode. Was he an athlete? I have cardiomyopathy - the same type that a lot of athletes have but aren't aware of it - and if I go too hard too fast my heart could literally just say "frick this, I'm out" but thankfully I know about it and can take medication and exercise the right way to make it stronger. This is terrible for the parents. I just can't imagine.

To everyone here doing anything other than expressing condolences. Let’s not start up the gossip game. Not only does the next step become speculation but it is very immature and tactless. This is someones kid.

Empathize and show some respect.

Trying to get information on what and how it happened isn't immature or tactless. My son is going to be a senior at Dutchtown HS.
I am empathizing with the family 100%. But I absolutely want as much information as I can get so as to prevent this from happening to one of my children.

We did the same thing just a few weeks ago when the two girls crashed into a pond and drowned.

We mean no disrespect to the family or the deceased child at all.

100%
I don't think anyone means any disrespect whatsoever.

Also, I had no idea people actually swim in those subdivision ponds.

It has made Ascension parish sherif news. 17y/o drowned in a pond. So sad.

Am I reading this right? Is this the SECOND time a 17 yr old has drowned in that same pond?

Wafb article from 2015 - 17 yr old drowns in Geismar Pond

quote:

May 11, 2015 - BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Authorities said the body of a teenage drowning victim was found Sunday.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office reported the body of Malcolm Calloway, 17, of Sunshine, surfaced close to where he and his friends first dived into a lake in Geismar.

Lt. Col. Bobby Webre with APSO said the drowning happened near the intersection of Canterbury Park Drive and Audubon Park in a Dutchtown subdivision. The victim was visiting family there when a group decided to go swimming.
