Why do you have the gold plan?

Because I cannot afford several thousand dollars if something happens to me. When I say struggling, I mean that it sucks. I'm not unable to pay other bills or something.

no the dumbasses go to the er and never pay their bills...who pays them? the paying patients...the hospital doesn't take a loss.

so what do you propose? I say people without insurance should go to free clinics and charity hospitals...why should you go to a hospital and incur a bill you can't pay?

What does this have to do with what I said to you? Medications. Free clinics and charity hospitals don't write out free scripts for $1000/month medication, unless I'm mistaken. I agree that people without insurance should go to free clinics and charity hospitals. I was explaining that the reason some poorer folks back the healthcare plan we currently have is because it allows them to afford medications they would not otherwise be able to afford.

Bruh. You serious? 25 making a good 60k? shite son, I wish. Of the many many people around my age I know, only one makes that. And that's because of nepotism and a family company job. You hiring for 60k? I'll do it. Whatever it is. I'm in. I can make 60 k go a Longgggg arse way

So let's say you make $36k per year. Now you're getting a $52 premium credit, so that bronze plan costs $200/month now. $2,400 per year in premiums or $900 penalty with no coverage. The better financial decision is the insurance.

What am I missing, why would you just pay the fine? The last I checked, the fine was the cost of the bronze plan.

Paying The fine means you pay for insurance, without getting it. Maybe this is only the case of you are getting single coverage and not for a family, because you would hit the monetary limit before you hit the actual cost of the bronze plan for a family.

I'm not being a dick, I'm trying to help. If you're healthy, it is probably in your best interest to purchase the bronze plan. Depending on your income, a sliver plan could be a nice trade off as well.

you are saying this is a more common problem than people getting treated?

You serious Clark?

2400>900. I'm healthy as an ox. I've gotten sick once in the last 6 years. Only hospital visits have been checkup once a year and 2 hand surgeries.

So $900 plus we will say, $100 bucks for a flu shot. Gives me 1400 to save or spend on other shite.

As for if anything really bad happens.. Well. I can just tap into my inheritance.

I know you're not. I just over-prepare. I'm healthy, but I don't take chances. I hate the healthcare costs like everyone does, but I have budgeted to be able to full take care of myself in the worst case scenario.

And like I said. IF something serious happened, I can simply tap into my insurance. If that drys up (lol) I can sell off some stock. If THAT runs out, then I'll probably already be dead.

I don't get this at all, at least for an individual.

30 year old, $40k income

Bronze plan annual premium after $64/month credit = $2,685
2.5% penalty for no insurance = $1,000

So you "save" $1,685 to be 100% on the hook for an unknown amount of healthcare costs?

30 year old, $80k income

Bronze plan annual premium = $3,458
2.5% penalty for no insurance = $2,000

The savings only get worse the more you make. I just don't get the mindset.

are you single?

just get married, it qualifies as a major life changing event and then you qualify for obamacare rates again.
