Has anyone done advanced surface treatment over Lasik for eye surgery?

I'm not a doctor, nor am I an optometrist, but here's my take:

There's the best way(s) to perform corrective surgery which ALWAYS involves some amount of removal of the epithelial layer and a reshaping of the cornea (PRK, ASA, LASEK) then there's the quicker, lazier way (LASIK).

LASIK has advantages - mainly in terms of quickness, convenience, faster recovery and so on. But to really do it right from a physical/biological standpoint you have to reshape the cornea and not just make a permanent contact lense. That's just a band-aid fix.

I've had PRK this year. They only do one eye at a time. Surgery isn't bad and it's quick.

The third day can be miserable. Constant eye watering, burning, and puffiness. I looked like Sloth it was so swollen. You have to sleep with an eye guard on for a week to make sure you don't scratch it.

Takes about two months for the eye to fully heal and get to where the vision is completely corrected. A week afterwards my vision was 20/25 and I'd been wearing contacts for twenty years before that.

I recommend it, but your close vision won't ever be as good as it was before if you're nearsighted. That's the one thing they didn't tell me.

My dad has a couple times and it didnt work

I had LASEK... Pretty sure the epithelial layer just degrades away and your are prolonging a PRK in essence, but yeah it was so painful for the first week. Couldn't really see enough to drive for 3 weeks. My prescription was -7 and -7.25..... would do again in a heart beat.

My doctor said he'd only do one eye at a time. And to be honest, I wouldn't want them both done at the same time with PRK.

Unless you mean LASIK. They do both eyes with that at the same time, typically, because recovery is faster.

That is definitely one of the things I am wondering. I have it schedule for a Wednesday afternoon and I am suppose to be back at work Friday morning. I am thinking I may need to reschedule this when I can take a few more days off.
The other thing I am worried about is the fact I am nearsighted. I can see fine with things up close. If I put on my glasses its just clearer. I would compare it to standard definition vs 4k on a tv.
I can see, but its a lot clearer with my glasses on. I have trouble seeing further distances.
So if it's going mess up my nearsighted vision then I may second guess this. I spend a lot of time in front of computer and paperwork.

That's not an option unfortunately
So looks like I need to put this off till I can take more time off
Doctors office is telling me I should be able to drive 24 hours for post op
But should have back up plan in case

I had PRK done in 2004, and both eyes were done at the same time. The procedure went very quickly, but the recovery can be a pain in the arse.

I guess I brought it on myself because I didn't take the Tylox that was prescribed to me. I didn't have any pain for the first day and a half to two days. That third day, however... it was like hades himself was dancing a fiery dance on my eyes. I woke up in excruciating pain. It was like having needles stabbing me in the eyes. The doctor told me that the Tylox would have made me not care about the pain (something about pain meds not really effecting the eyes unless it was topical). You live and you learn. The pain lasted for maybe 2 days tops. Other than that, it felt like I had a little sand in my eyes while the eyes healed themselves.

I would do it all over again, however. My vision was horrible, and it had been since I was in the 5th grade (nearsighted). After the surgery, my vision was 20/15 and still is to this day. I'm not sure if my eyes were ever that good, but they are now so that's all that matters. Get the surgery done and don't look back. But take the pain meds.
