Thanks for all the replies, I will definitley warn him about the drinking. I've never seen him drunk but he does have a drink or two when they come around to visit. I'll pass along the recommendations for the places to visit.

some good advice already laid out on here. I was in Amman last week and go there occasionally. They are very westernized in the city and accommodating to foreigners. The people are kind and the food is fantastic. I even found a decent Irish pub and a great pizza joint while I was there.
Just tell him to learn a few basic phrases like hello, please, and thank you and to stay with the others when going out drinking/exploring and he will be fine. Tell him also to avoid looking their women in the eye out in public, and to always address the men first out of respect.

this is great advice too. learn a few basic arabic phrases and use them with the locals and they will absolutely love it. they dont expect you to speak arabic, and most of them WANT to practice their english with Americans. but just showing them the respect of learning a few phrases and not jsut expecting them to speak english goes very far with the Jordanians (also true for most other countries i've been to)

I found Jordan and surprisingly,Syria to be inviting. In fact, in Syria, it's about 20% Christian, and they aren't messed with at all and in the Christian parts of Damascus there was a pretty good restaurant/bar scene where all the rich Muslims would go to get drunk....and coked up. Have not been there in 15 years but had a great time when I went.
i dont know who might need to hear this in this thread, but dont fricking go to Syria.

I would go to Israel and Jordan before the other 2. Especially Syria.

Bc they’re armed and ready to defend themselves
