Even where the former projects were has been surprisingly kept up well and seem to be much lower in crime that the slums before Katrina.

I heard from a few people that they are being run much better with good screening processes of who gets in and they aren't afraid to throw people out who are trouble.

I remain skeptical of that development more than any other.

That stinks to hear. I was quite excited about this Four Seasons plan.

If Cedrick Grant and his city idiot managers wouldn't have screwed up the first bid process and revoked the original development deal, we would probably be well into a construction phase. Not sure who that developer was going to be though.

Not sure if the developer but that W hotel was by far the best of the entrants.

NOLA is going to have serious hotel space. That double hotel concept in the old UNO building next to I10 just opened up as well.

Yep, New Orleans is doing very well. Crime and poverty will always be a problem, and unfortunately shapes many people's opinion of the city. It is just the way it is in a city with our demographics. Despite that, downtown is gentrifying (a good thing) and developing at a rapid pace.

Doesn’t have to be.

Canal between Claiborne and Rampart is a completely different place now. There are new hotels (Jung, some Marriot properties), new upscale housing including the ones on Canal and Basin that have been there for a minute, and renovated office spaces (Tulane, New Orleans Bio Med Center). Before Katrina it was sketchy even parking up there and walking to the State Palace.

To summarize, that area is safer than ever and Hard Rock will fit right in.

I don't know. A friend of mine thought this same thing and moved into one of the "market rate" places at the development that used to be St. Thomas and it was pretty terrible. The people from the Amityville house stayed longer than he did.

It has been over a year since the monthly shootouts on that corner. Almost 3 years since the guy shot the woman in the head inside the Chinese restaurant right there.

There is a reason so much happens at that intersection.
