So nothing bad happened to you and you’re interesting experience was just being aware of your surroundings? You should do that everywhere. Imagine living in DC area and thinking you might be sniped from a kid in a trunk during those times

Not true. Not that long ago the French Quarter, CBD, St. Charles, Lake area and other great areas was very safe and hospitable. Of course there were pockets of criminality but they were easy avoidable. Police were highly visible and effective. People from all over the world came to the city for a great time, great food, history, statues and being part of the Big Easy. Now its a $h!t show.

Those areas are still mostly safe and hospitable. Y’all overplay the NOLA hate way too much. EBR is having record crime/murder too...but only NOLA is the third world city dragging the state down.

This is one of the bigger changes I have noticed. Sure there were problems and abuses within the old NOPD, but at least they were present and trying to prevent crime. If you went to the FQ, you could count on seeing multiple NOPD patrol officers on foot, and sometimes on horseback. And everyone understood that you didn't frick with those guys. In my trips to the FQ in recent years I have been struck by the absence of noticeable police presence. It seems the city is trying to rely on cameras to address crimes after the fact instead of trying to deter them in the first place.

It isn't just the FQ. I am uptown, and it is disturbing how infrequently I see NOPD patrols. If I see them at all, they are usually responding to something that has happened.

Yeah, overall BR is just as violent now. Historically, it's been pretty isolated to NBR and a few bad neighborhoods in SBR but that's becoming less the case these days.
