Slowing down and getting behind the SUV sounds good, but there's a good chance the SUV would have slowed down, too. I've seen people do this to try to block someone from changing a lane. It's not good enough that the car gets behind them - some people want to punish other drivers.
Lots of folks on the OT proudly brag about blocking cars out from a lane that's ending. Those folks would be right at home in this video.

the guy with the video camera is a moron. He could have just gone behind them.

And do what with them? You have to question someone's capacity if they'll get out and approach a strangers vehicle in the middle of traffic. What if he was a gang bangin thug who doesn't like being disrespected? What if he just saw someone rushing his vehicle and reached for a gun?
