Went and saw the Pianist of Willesden Lane at Le Petite Theatre last Sunday. Awesome play. It's about a 14 year old Jewish girl who was a piano prodigy. She was placed on a train that brought 10,000 Jewish children out of Europe right before Hitler shut it all down. English Jews and others paid for their passage. She wound up in England, a foreign girl knowing no one. She became a concert pianist.
Her parents were killed at Auschwitz.
The play is her story. It is a one-act play of 90 minutes. The actress is her daughter, who is herself a world-class pianist.
Very moving. Not a dry eye in the theatre at the end.
Tonight and tomorrow at 7:30, sunday at 3:00.

The Holocaust, as bad of an atrocity as it was, remains one of the more interesting aspects of recent history.
The sophisticated murdering machine the Nazis ran is what makes it so intriguing. It was literally a fine-tuned operation. I can't understand how so many people in the SS bought into it as a "mission" to racially purify the Reich.
